About LinkedIn Formatter

What It Does

LinkedIn Formatter is a free tool that converts plain text to Unicode-styled text for LinkedIn. Choose from bold, italic, bold italic, underline, strikethrough, monospace, cursive, small caps, fraktur, and more than 13 styles total. Use them in LinkedIn posts, comments, and profiles to make your content more readable and eye-catching.

Why We Built It

LinkedIn has no built-in formatting toolbar. If you wanted bold or italic text, you had to manually find and copy Unicode characters one by one. We automated the entire process so you can format your text instantly and copy it with a single click.

How It Works

LinkedIn Formatter uses Unicode mathematical symbol characters that visually look like formatted text. When you type your text and select a style, we map each character to its Unicode equivalent. All conversion happens in your browser — no data is sent to any server. Your text stays private on your device.

Data & Accuracy

Our Unicode character mappings follow the Unicode Standard. The formatted text is compatible with LinkedIn's text parser on both desktop and mobile. Since these are standard Unicode characters, they work across most modern platforms, with occasional rendering differences on older devices.

Browser Extension

LinkedIn Formatter is also available as a Chrome extension. Format text directly in your browser without switching tabs — the same styles, the same one-click copy, right where you write.

Our Approach to Unicode

LinkedIn Formatter's character mappings are built directly from the Unicode Standard. We map each Latin letter to its corresponding Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbol code point — for example, bold “A” is U+1D400, italic “A” is U+1D434. Mappings are selected from standardized Unicode blocks and checked against common LinkedIn rendering behavior.

For combining characters (underline, strikethrough), we use U+0332 and U+0336 respectively. These combining marks are appended after each base character. We do not use deprecated or Private Use Area Unicode characters. Every character we generate is from standardized, publicly documented Unicode blocks.

Privacy and Data Handling

All text formatting happens entirely in your browser using client-side JavaScript. Your text is never sent to a server, stored in a database, or logged in any analytics system. We do not see, collect, or retain any text you type into the formatter.

The site uses Google Analytics for anonymous page-view tracking. Cookies may also be used for advertising by third-party partners (such as Google AdSense). See our privacy policy for the complete details. The site runs as a Next.js static export — there is no backend server processing your requests.

Who Built This

LinkedIn Formatter was built by a developer who needed formatted text for LinkedIn posts but found the existing tools cluttered, ad-heavy, and slow. We built a faster, cleaner alternative focused on two things: accurate Unicode conversion and a distraction-free interface. The tool started as a single bold text converter and grew to support bold, italic, underline, strikethrough, and more — plus a post preview, bullet point formatting, and a Chrome extension.
